BIO
Brought up on Ireland’s west coast, Alex Verner developed an early instinct for landscape, light, and visual storytelling. Before filmmaking, he trained in architectural model making, which shaped his precision, patience, and sense of form.
His career began in Southern Africa, working in Botswana’s safari industry before moving into wildlife television. Camera work on BBC’s Elephants Without Borders, David Attenborough’s Nature’s Great Events, and National Geographic’s Night of the Lion led him back to the UK, where he joined the principal photography team on TT3D: Closer to the Edge, the acclaimed Isle of Man TT feature documentary.
He went on to direct and shoot commercial work for brands including Nissan, Jaguar Land Rover, Goodyear, and the UFC, where he remains a series director on sports emmy nominated UFC Countdown. His interest in technology and performance also led him to creative-direct a collaboration with Audi Sport and Imperial College London exploring AI versus elite human drivers, contributing to research later published in Nature.
Verner’s documentary work includes Jack B. Yeats: The Man Who Painted Ireland (written with Colm Tóibín, narrated by Pierce Brosnan), the AI-focused Cyborg Society, and Christy Brown: Self Portrait (featuring Saoirse Ronan, narrated by Aidan Gillen). His films have received international awards and broadcast distribution across major networks.
His work is defined by strong visual authorship, emotional restraint, and an ability to translate complex ideas into cinematic form.
